This activity is about supervising firestopping teams on site installing stone wool mineral fibre components or infills to fill construction joints and profiles (excluding cavity barriers) and includes loose fill, slabs, strips, trapezoidal and dovetail infills. This includes arranging for work to take place at site, allocating individuals to carry out work, ensuring that the appropriate resources are available to installation teams, resolving problems and communicating information about the progress of works. It also includes monitoring the quality of firestopping installations as they are being carried out, to ensure that the work of firestopping teams complies with the requirements set out within the project specification.

    • To include: Compartmentation; How firestopping impedes fire to protect structures and people

  • Understand the importance of considering both firestopping product manufacturers' and system owners' guidance when installing firestopping
    • The system owner is the organisation which owns the test evidence and design for the system to which the firestopping is to be installed (e.g. fire resisting ducts, dampers or flues). For example, where firestopping is required to fire resisting ducts or dampers, the duct or damper manufacturer's guidance will be required to determine the correct firestop system for use
